College World Series and Rosenblatt Stadium
1950–2010

The College World Series has been contested every year since 1950 at Omaha’s Rosenblatt Stadium, 2010 marks the final year that what many consider the “Mecca” of College baseball will host the “Greatest Show on Dirt” the NCAA Men’s College World Series. Memories that will never fade have been etched in the minds of players and fans alike, perhaps Tulane University coach Rick Jones said it best, it was June 7, 2001 the day of the Green Waves first practice at Rosenblatt Stadium, a charter bus carrying the team, heading south on 13th street had reached the crest of a hill when it came into view.

“And when we popped up on top of that hill.” Jones recalled this week, “ and it’s quiet, and you hear a couple of kids from the back say, “There it is–I’ll tell you what, there were cold chills all over me when that happened. You realize you’re there. For a college baseball player, it’s a Mecca.

The first two College Championships were held in Kalamazoo, MI., the third in Wichita, KS., where future President of the United States, George Bush Sr. captained the Yale squad, neither city protested when Omaha wooed the NCAA to Rosenblatt Stadium in 1950 and into the 15,000 seat stadium erected three years earlier, since then Omaha has had a sixty year love affair with the CWS, people from out of town often joke that “Omaha is a town with a baseball problem.”

Coaches gather your team, your teams parents, friends, family and join with the Omaha Champion Village to celebrate and retire Rosenblatt Stadium the “Mecca” of college baseball. “Be a part of History” see you in Omaha in 2010!
